Reed Overend passed away on August 5, 2015. He was a resident of Selbyville, Delaware, and a former long-time resident of Annapolis, Maryland. He is survived by his wife Michele, three sons, and five grandchildren.
I write this note on the 26th day of September 2015 which would have been Reedie's 72nd birthday. Don't ask me how I remembered that simple little "rat fact". Reedie was the first kid I ever met in 1953 when my parents moved from the Detroit area to Sunset Hills. I was this skinny little awkward shy kid who looked like he just got off the boat from Bangladesh and Reedie looked like he already was gearing up for the varsity high school football team. Our families were great neighbors and these neighbors created such fond memories over the eight years that we lived in Mount Lebanon. Thanks Reed for being a part of them. Happy Birthday. Mike Reed
A wonderful memory Mike , thanks for sharing ! I remember fondly the ONLY time a small gathering stood around while doing the jitterbug with Reed at one of the dances - so fun !! Didra Kirschner
The first time I met Reed, we got into a fight while in the equipment line for freshman football. I did not fare well.
He then blocked for me the next four years and he blocked very, very well. I got into the Naval Academy partly because of Reed's prowess.
Bill Hertel informed me many years later that Reed was living in Annapolis, Md. and was in poor health. I am very sorry that I did not visit him to pay my respects.
