Mimi and I dated briefly during the first part of senior year in high school and exchanged rings.  She wore mine around her neck.  I put her ring on my little finger and had to cut it off in the middle of the night with tin snips because my finger was turning black.  We then un-exchanged rings and she was not very pleased with the condition of hers.  Nevertheless, we continued to see each other.

Just before Christmas, Mimi asked me to get her a necklace of some sort as a present.  I dutifully did and took it over to her house on Christmas eve.  She opened my gift, took the necklace out of its box, and started to go upstairs.  I thought she was going upstairs, perhaps, to place my beautiful necklace (bought to her exact specifications I might add) in some sort of treasure chest she had hidden away in her room.

This turned out not to be the case.

As she was ascending the staircase, Mimi looked down at me over her shoulder and asked me to leave because Rob was coming over.  Payback is, well, payback.

I've always loved this story, noting full well that I was totally out of my league with Miss Mary Helen Gambs.

God bless, Mimi.

Jay
